Rodalies R2 Nord from Terminal 2 to Passeig de Gràcia, around 27 minutes. Single fare €5.05 in zone 4, every 30 minutes. The station is about 400 metres from T2B across a footbridge; from T1 a free shuttle bus runs to T2.
Domènech i Montaner’s hospital city at C. Sant Antoni Maria Claret 167: art nouveau pavilions, mosaics, gardens, underground passages. April to October daily 9:30–18:30, last entry 18:00.
Barcelona’s city festival for the Mare de Déu de la Mercè: five days of concerts, parades and street programme across the centre, from 23 to 27 September 2026. No ticket.
Gaudí, tapas, water and light
Gaudí’s basilica, at its full height of 172.5 metres since 20 February 2026. Basic ticket €26, €36 with the tower. Entrance on c. de la Marina, metro L2 and L5.
A tiny conserve bar in Poble Sec, C. del Poeta Cabanyes 25: montaditos handed across the counter. No reservations, first come first served. Mon–Fri 12:00–16:00 and 18:00–22:30.
Water, light and music in front of the MNAC at Plaça de Carles Buïgas 1, in the 21:30–22:30 window. Free.
Market, Park Güell, bunkers
A market hall from 1840 at La Rambla 91: spices, fruit, fish and small counters to have breakfast at. Free entry, from 8am.
The dragon fountain, the hall of columns and the trencadís wave bench above the city, entrance on Carrer d’Olot. Ticket €18, €13.50 for children aged 7–12 and visitors over 65, free under 7.
A civil-war anti-aircraft battery on the ridge above El Carmel, with a full circle of city and sea. Access and the MUHBA rooms cost nothing.
Sunday market, then home
The Sunday market around the market hall at Comte d’Urgell 1: books, comics, collectors’ cards and curiosities. Running since 1937, free entry.
A cobla band plays on the Pla de la Seu and the circle is open to anyone. Free, a good hour.
Picasso’s early work in Gothic city palaces at Carrer de Montcada 15–23, a few minutes on foot from the cathedral. Ticket €14 online, €15 at the desk.

On 24 September the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau is free — one of just three free days a year, right on the Mercè holiday. And on Sunday at 11:15 a cobla plays for the sardana on the Pla de la Catedral, free and open to anyone.
